Training Program 
 

The Vascular Access Center offers an intensive three month program that provides clinical training in all aspects of percutaneous vascular access-related procedures. The program includes active participation in all aspects of our outpatient vascular access center. The trainee will perform procedures as primary operator.

The Vascular Access Center located in Frontenac, Missouri which is a suburb of Saint Louis. Our outpatient procedure facility opened in April 2007. We have two fully equipped angiography suites with Siemens ARCADIS fluoroscopy equipment and Sonosite S-CATH and Zonare ultrasound units.  

The faculty includes: Tom Vesely, M.D. an interventional radiologist, Steve Bander, M.D. an interventional nephrologist, and Scott Westfall, M.D. a vascular surgeon who all have extensive experience performing vascular access procedures. 

We have a full staff of experienced nurses and x-ray technologists and we perform a broad range of vascular access-related procedures and services. These percutaneous procedures include; 1) fistulography, 2) angioplasty, 3) thrombectomy, 4) stents and stent grafts, and 5) all procedures related to hemodialysis catheters. We also insert subcutaneous infusion ports for chemotherapy.  

Our daily work schedule is variable but we typically perform 25-30 procedures per week, about 5-6 procedures per day. We only allow one trainee at a time so each physician should have an excellent experience during the 3-month program. All of our previous trainees have fulfilled the ASDIN requirements for certification in vascular access procedures. 

At this point in time we require a training commitment of three consecutive months. 

Requirements include a temporary State of Missouri medical license and documentation of professional liability coverage.
